Letter from the President-Elect and Program Chair
39th Annual Meeting Update
Online registration for our 39th Annual Meeting in San
Francisco, California, from Wednesday September 21
through Sunday September 25, 2005 is now open at
www.ashnr.org. This year, both meeting and hotel reservations
can be made through the Society’s website. Special
thanks go to our Webmaster, Rick Wiggins, for his efforts.
The opening session on Wednesday afternoon will focus
on imaging of ENT and ophthalmic emergencies. The
opening reception will follow, giving us a chance to meet old
friends and greet new ones.
Thursday will begin with a focus session on PET/CT.
Pearls and pitfalls of image acquisition and image interpretation
will be covered in this first-ever session devoted exclusively
to PET/CT in the head and neck.
Thursday morning will conclude with our scientific
paper session. Many Society members, myself included,
made their first oral presentation at an ASHNR meeting. If
you or one of your trainees has observations or cases to
share, a copy of the Call for Abstracts can be found in your
registration brochure or at www.ashnr.org. The deadline for
abstract submission is July 18.
Friday will begin with a focus session on practice management
in head and neck imaging. Whether you interpret
images from a teaching hospital or a freestanding center,
you’re sure to pick up tips for improving your practice during
this session.
Friday morning will conclude with an expert film panel.
Stars may not be stumped in our “Real Time Reading
Room” but you will gain valuable insights into both image
analysis and report synthesis in a relaxed atmosphere.
The highlight of Friday afternoon will be our annual
Gold Medal Award Luncheon, honoring Anthony A.
Mancuso, MD. All of us who have benefited from Tony’s numerous
contributions to the head and neck literature will
want to attend.
Saturday’s schedule has been specially designed to provide
you and your guests with ample time to enjoy the special
delights that San Francisco offers. Daytime temperatures
in late September average in the low to mid ‘70s,
providing an ideal opportunity to explore the city’s eclectic
neighborhoods—from Chinatown to Castro Street.
Saturday evening’s gala event will be held at a venue truly
representative of San Francisco—the recently remodeled
Asian Art Museum. We will have full access to the permanent
galleries that contain one of the most comprehensive
collections of Asian art in the world.
The meeting will conclude Sunday morning with a focus
session on sectional imaging of head and neck neoplasms. A
similar session drew raves from the attendees at our 2002
meeting—I’m sure you’ll find it equally rewarding.
Be sure to register now for what will be a truly memorable
meeting in a fabulous city. Visit www.ashnr.org. I look
forward to seeing you all there.
